Bee Rock Quarry Expansion

Bee Rock Quarry Expansion

The purpose of this project is to modify the operational limitations imposed by the Conditional Use Permit 87-CP-029 RV01 under which the facility currently operates, expand the area of mining by nine acres, and increase the current 175,000 tons/year production (export) limit to a rolling average of 300,000 tons/year over five years with a maximum of 400,000 tons in any given year.

With the proposed expansion, the area directly disturbed would increase from 22.5 to 31.5 acres and the total amount of limestone to be extracted would increase by approximately 4 million tons to 11.7 million tons. Mining would continue to the year 2043. The proposed reclamation plan describes the geometry of the final reclaimed surface and the re-vegetation methods to be employed. The re-vegetation activities would include the planting of 100 oak trees and the seeding of the final surface with native species.

Project Status

The proposed Diamond Rock Mine was approved by the Planning Commission on May 14, 2008.

On July 15, 2008 the Board of Supervisors will set a hearing date for consideration of the appeals on August 26, 2008.
